Texas and the Interstate Family Support Act Amendments (2008)

State of Texas legislators have approved House Bill 3538, which incorporates federal laws involving international child support into state law. The bill has been sent to the Governor for signature. Governor Greg Abbot, the former Attorney General of Texas, who used to head the Texas Child Support Division, will likely sign the bill into law. More can be read about the 2008 federal law at the Uniform Law Commission’s website below. Details about the recent Texas bill is located here on Texas Legislature Online.

The 2008 UIFSA Amendments modify the current version of UIFSA’s international provisions to comport with the obligations of the United States under the 2000 Hague Convention on Maintenance.
